UPDATE! 03.05.09 - Senate Bill 460 (Commerical Dog Breeders) was filed.

North Carolina is becoming known as a puppy mill state.
There is a bill currently being drafted that can help end the suffering and pain being experienced by dogs in North Carolina Puppy Mills.
Many of these dogs are unable to stand, blind, about to whelp a litter of puppies, or just rejected by one puppy mill and sold to another.
We now have the opportunity to provide a voice for thousands of North Carolina dogs that have none. Dogs are companion animals, yet are being “debarked” to keep them quiet, and left unattended and malnourished outside in the dark while breeding. We have to do more.
The battle in North Carolina is particularly difficult. The puppy mills are not all clustered together (like in Amish community). The eastern half of our state is riddled with puppy mills. PMAD is committed to raising public awareness and supporting North Carolina legislators and HSUS in getting this bill passed.
