Law Officials Meet Amber
MEET AMBER:
Those beautiful eyes and that gorgeous face don't really tell her story.
She does have a scared look to her but with good reason. Amber was used in a
Commercial Kennel (Puppy Mill) as a breeding dog. This is what we do know about her. She is between 2-4 years old. She was
wearing a USDA tag. She has had so many litters of puppies that she had to have
her uterus reinserted in her body. That was done while she was at the
Commercial kennel. When they bred her yet again the uterus popped back out and
she was of no use to them anymore. What normally happens to useless breeding stock did not happen to Amber. She is still alive and with rescue. The kind farmer decided not to do what is the accepted practice for breeding stock that is no longer productive. She was not shot, nor was she drowned. Her body was not put in the compost heap and later spread on the fields. Amber and the family who will ultimately take Amber home and make her a pet, thanks the person who decided she didn't need to be killed. Another known fact, is that the kennel from which Amber came was inspected in October of 2005. There were a number of violations, such as dirty water, to small cages, etc. There was no mention of the golden retriever with the obvious medical condition. Additionally, no one ever came back to see that the noted violations were taken care of. Most Commercial Breeders chose not to let the public see the shape of their discarded breeding stock. They are told never to turn these dogs over to rescue. We thank the man who didn't listen. Please know that there are tens of thousands of dogs with pleading eyes behind the walls of the boarded up barns, and out buildings. Most of them would be happy to be quickly killed. It would end their daily suffering. We thank Governor Rendell, for his compassion for these animals. I am sure his two Golden Retrievers would love to meet Amber and give her a kiss.
